A Lausanne Learning Teacher Consultant Visit

Inviting a Lausanne Learning Teacher Consultant to your school will probably be significantly different from any other consultant you have brought in to partner with your teachers. This is not going to be a workshop with your teachers for a day after which you are on your own.

Lausanne Learning takes seriously its mission to Engage Students; Empower Faculty; Transform Schools. Our consulting follows that model:

The first stage of any good consult is preparation – this means the consultant educating herself about your school. What are you doing now? How are you doing it? The consultant reads documents and looks at your website and considers your mission. She talks to you and a couple of faculty. She understands the needs of your school and defines the goals and outcomes of the engagement with you.

Note: this is an example only and will be adapted to meet the school’s needs and the advice of the Teacher Consultant.

Part One: the consultant visits classrooms to see the students in action and to talk with them. It’s critical that change fit your culture - otherwise, positive change will never truly occur from a consultant's visit. This is active preparation.

Part Two: the consultant demonstrates their teaching in a fishbowl setting. This means that she teaches one or more groups of your own students while your teachers observe and then reflect together with the consultant. What does your initiative actually look like? What was successful? What are obvious challenges? How does this inspire thinking? In what ways are we prepared for this initiative and what steps do we still need to take? Am I inspired?

Note: this is an example only and will be adapted to meet the school’s needs and the advice of the Teacher Consultant.

Now it’s time to begin the design time with the faculty and the faculty teams. Teachers are now doing the work coached by the consultant. What are we going to do? How? Are there resources we need? What will the implementation calendar look like? The consultant will ensure that there is plenty of reflection (metacognitive process) so that meaning is always infused into the action.

Note: this is an example only and will be adapted to meet the school’s needs and the advice of the Teacher Consultant.

Of course, a Lausanne Learning Teacher Consultant will not transform your school. That is the job of your own teachers. But to ensure that the process has integrity, the consultant will follow-up with two calls to reflect on progress with you and give advice and counsel as to how to proceed forward. Remember, because you were wise to choose a consultant from Lausanne Learning, the consultant doesn’t have to “remember” your school. She is doing those same things on a daily basis in her own classroom. Advice and counsel are from a practitioner!

Note: this is an example only and will be adapted to meet the school’s needs and the advice of the Teacher Consultant.

What's the Cost for Engaging a Lausanne Learning Teacher Consultant?

That’s hard to say because they’re all different. However, to give you an idea, a recent agreement with a school was in the area of:

 Problem-Based Learning and Learning Differences

The contract included two full days on site along with preparation and follow-up. Total cost to the school was $2800 and expenses. Just so you know, Lausanne Learning doesn’t want the Teacher Consultant’s own classes to suffer during this time and we pay for a guest teacher to cover those classes!
